Some neighbourhoods have history. The Kingsway has chapters. 📖🏫

Long before Lambton Kingsway Jr. Middle School became one of the most beloved schools in west Toronto, it began as something far humbler.

Back in 1845, a one-room schoolhouse stood on Dundas Street just west of Church Street (now Royal York Road) at the foot of St. George’s Hill, serving children from both sides of the Humber River in York Township. It was known as a “union school”, bringing together families from the east and west sides of the river.

By 1875, the growing community needed a new location. The school moved to the corner of Blizzard Road (now Prince Edward Drive North) and Government Road, after plans for the Credit Valley Railway meant the original site would soon be too close to the tracks.

Then in 1916, as the neighbourhood continued to grow, a four-room school was built beside the original building on that same site, laying the foundation for what would eventually become Lambton Kingsway Jr. Middle School.

From a single classroom in a rural township to one of the most iconic schools in the Kingsway, generations of families have walked through its doors.

Some things change.

Confession: watching yourself on TV is a uniquely

Confession: watching yourself on TV is a uniquely humbling sport. 📺😅

I finally sat down and watched my episode of Top of the Block (Season 1, Episode 10) and… wow. Equal parts entertaining and slightly mortifying. Apparently when cameras are rolling and you’re talking about houses, the opinions come out a little sharper than expected.

The show itself is actually a great concept: three neighbouring homes, a panel deciding the winner, and plenty of real estate drama along the way. It was a fun experience to be part of something new… even if watching it back made me want to hide behind a pillow for a few moments.

Would I do TV again?
Probably not.
Was it entertaining?
Definitely.
